About Naira Exchange Rates
Naira FX Tracker provides real-time exchange rates for the Nigerian Naira (NGN) against the world's major currencies — US Dollar (USD), British Pound Sterling (GBP), Euro (EUR), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Chinese Yuan (CNY), South African Rand (ZAR), Ghanaian Cedi (GHS), and UAE Dirham (AED).
For every pair we display two rates side-by-side: the official rate from the Central Bank of Nigeria's NAFEM / I&E window, and the parallel market rate — also known as the black market, aboki rate, or BDC rate — set by Bureau de Change operators and street traders outside the official CBN channel.
Why two rates exist in Nigeria
Nigeria operates a managed-float exchange rate regime. When demand for foreign currency exceeds official CBN supply, a premium builds in the parallel market. This spread — which has ranged from under 1% to over 60% in recent years — is important information for importers, exporters, students paying overseas tuition, travellers, diaspora remittance senders, and businesses managing FX exposure.
How rates are sourced
Official rates are fetched from live interbank FX data feeds and cross-referenced with publicly available CBN/NAFEM figures. Parallel market rates are aggregated from BDC operator quotes across Lagos (Victoria Island, Murtala Muhammed Airport), Abuja (Wuse 2), and Port Harcourt. Cross rates for non-USD pairs are computed from live interbank pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the dollar to naira rate today?
The live USD/NGN rate — both the official CBN/NAFEM rate and the parallel (black market) BDC rate — is shown at the top of this page and refreshes every minute.
What is the black market or parallel market naira rate?
The parallel or black market rate is what Bureau de Change (BDC) operators and street traders charge for foreign currency outside the official CBN window. It is shown as "Parallel" on every rate card and is typically 1–5% above the official rate, though the gap can widen during FX policy shifts.
What is the pound to naira (GBP/NGN) rate?
The live GBP/NGN rate — official and parallel — is shown on the GBP card above. It is computed from the live GBP/USD cross rate multiplied by the USD/NGN official rate.
How often are the rates updated?
Official rates refresh every 60 seconds during market hours using live interbank FX data. Parallel market rates are updated multiple times daily based on BDC operator quotes from Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.
Can I set a rate alert for the dollar?
Yes. Use the Price Alerts section above. Set your pair (e.g. USD/NGN), condition (above or below), and your target rate in Naira. You will receive a browser notification when the rate crosses your target.
Can I install this as a mobile app?
Yes — Naira FX Tracker is a Progressive Web App (PWA). Tap Install App in the header, or use your browser's "Add to Home Screen" option. It works offline using last-cached rates.
Is this the official CBN website?
No. This is an independent rate aggregator, not affiliated with the Central Bank of Nigeria. For official CBN rates and licensed FX transactions, visit cbn.gov.ng or contact your bank.
