Data Sources
Official FX rates are sourced from ExchangeRate-API and the ECB via Frankfurter. Black market rates are sourced from AbokiDollar and BDC operator quotes from Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. Commodity prices are sourced from TradingView. Cryptocurrency prices are sourced from CoinGecko. Your base currency is automatically detected from your IP location.

The live USD/NGN rate — official CBN and parallel (black market) — is at the top of this page, updated every minute.
How is the AI direction determined?
Currency44 uses AI (configurable: OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, or Cohere) to analyse the 24-hour price trend and momentum for each instrument and generate a one-sentence directional commentary. It is updated every 5 minutes. No AI key? We use a rule-based heuristic instead.
Why does my base currency change automatically?
Currency44 uses your IP address to detect your country and sets your default currency accordingly — for example, NGN for Nigeria, GBP for the UK, USD for the US. You can override this in the converter.
Can I set rate alerts?
Yes. Use the Price Alerts section above. Set a pair, condition (above/below), and target rate. You will receive a browser push notification when the rate crosses your target.
